About 

A PREMIERE NEW EVENT FOR WOMEN

The USA has a long tradition of a large Women's National Championship with a high level of competition.

 

This year, to compliment the Snipe Women's European Championship (SWEC), we are introducing the first Women's Western Hemisphere Cup that will take place in conjunction with the Women's Nationals.

​

The Hemispehere Cup with be the cumulative results of all three days of racing, while the US Women's National Championship will include only Saturday and Sunday's racing (2 days). 

​

The next edition of the Hemisphere Cup will move to Brasil and will continue to move to different countries in the Western Hemisphere allowing more all-women's competition in the Snipe Class.​​​

Venue & Conditions

BISCAYNE BAY - COCONUT GROVE, MIAMI

The competition will take place on Biscayne Bay in Miami. Biscayne Bay is a large body of protected water with the average depth of only 2-3 meters.  The water is warm and depending on the wind direction, can be flat, choppy, or wavy.

​

During November, sailors can expect air temperatures of 22C to 28C (72 - 82'F) and there is usually light to medium wind.

​

The fleet will sail from three clubs located next to each other in the area of Coconut Grove on Bayshore Drive.  Most boats will launch for the US Sailing Center.  Boats can launch by dolly at the ramp.  There are also two hoists for launching.

 

Coconut Grove is charming Miami neighborhood, south of the city center.  Coconut Grove is about a 20 - 25 minute drive from the airport and about a10 -15 minute drive from downtown and the train station.

​

There are shops, restaurants, and grocery store all in walking distance of the clubs.  Coconut Grove and most of the city of Miami is very safe. â€‹â€‹

Regatta Details

 Competitors can be from any country.  

​Competitors from SCIRA countries must have paid their Snipe Class dues for 2025. Skipper and crew do not need to be from the same country. 

​

Entry Fees

​

Hemisphere Cup & US Nationals - $160

US Nationals (only) - $125

​

There will be no formal measurement, but boats may be inspected at anytime.  Boats will be inspected for proper placement of lead and Class safety equipment requirements.​

​

The Race Committee will aim to complete 2 - 3 races per day, with races lasting 40 - 45 minutes.  Coaches are permitted, but must register with regatta organizers.  There will be on-water judging.

​

WHC prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams overall, the top team under 18 years, the top Master Team (both skipper and crew are Masters).

 

A prizes will be awarded for the US Nationals to the highest placing team from the USA or Puerto Rico and top three teams overall and the top team under 18 years.

Charter Boats

YOU WILL HAVE A QUALITY BOAT

Charter boats priority goes to international teams and teams from the West Coast.  Most boats are Perssons or DB Marine. Some very new American boats are available (Jibe Tech) and one or two Brazilian Lemaõs are also available. 

​

Charters do not come with sails.

Charters from the organizers includes insurance for boat damage. 

 

Charters will be available for WHC teams Boats on November 13.  Charters for the US Women's Nationals only will be availble the evening of November 14.

 

Teams wishing to train prior to November 13, must pay $22 per day for boat storage at the Sailing Center.

​

The majority of charters will be on dollies.  A few charters will be in trailers.  Boats can launch by ramp or by hoist.

​

We recommend teams bring their own compass, tension gauge, tape measure, and tools.

Last minute registration for Nationals on Saturday morning.

The entry fee for Nationals only is $125

Hotels & Housing

STAY NEAR COCONUT GROVE

There are many hotels in Coconut Grove, almost all in walking distance of the Sailing Center.  Hotels are expensive.  For Airbnbs, search in the following neighborhoods: 

Coconut Grove, Brickell, and South Miami.

​

The organizers have rented an Airbnb house for a group of 6 sailors.  The cost per night per sailor $60.  If you are interested in staying in the home, please contact the organizers.

​

There will be a limited number of free accommodations with Miami sailing families. These accommodations are for competitors only - no parents, no significant others, and only from November 13 - 16.  International teams and minors traveling with a parent have priority for the housing.

Flights  &Transportation

GETTING AROUND MIAMI IS EASY & AFFORABLE

Competitors may choose to fly into two airports.  Miami International Airport (MIA) is 15 - 30 mins. from Sailing Center depending on traffic. Ubers from the Miami airport cost about $15 - $22 dollars. 

​

The event organizers will do their best to offer a limited number of airport pick-ups for sailors under the age 18 and international teams during non-peak traffic times.  Pick-ups must be arranged well in advance of arrival (two weeks).

​

Fort Lauderdale International Airport is 35 mins. to 1 hour from the Sailing Center depending on traffic.  An Uber costs around $50 to Miami.  There are also two trains from Fort Lauderdale, one with a connection to the airport.  If you are thinking about arriving in Fort Lauderdale, please contact event organizers for more information.

​

The Sailing Center is in charming Coconut Grove, 4 km (2 miles) from the downtown/Brickell neighborhood.  Sailors can walk easily in Coconut Grove.  Competitors staying in Brickell, Coral Gables, or South Miami neighborhoods will need a car or take an Uber.

​

There are city bikes for rent in Downtown, Brickell, Coconut Grove, and South Beach ($6 for 30 minutes).  There is a City Bike station very near the Sailing Center.  It's easy to tour the area on City bikes.
