THE SNIPE

Sailed in more than 30 counties

Why the Snipe ?

  • Low Cost

  • Sailed in more than 30 countries & four continents

  • Established Women's National, Hemisphere, & World Championships

  • Easy and low cost transportation (8 - 9 boats in 40'container)

  • Very durable - 20 year old boats can still win Championships

  • Allows competitors of a wide range of weights/sizes to sail equally

  • Requires much athleticism, shows sailing as a sport - better for media

  • Two-person boat cuts housing and flight costs for organizers

  • Does not require trapeze or spinnaker experience (fair for Radial sailors)

  • Teams new to the Snipe can easily find boats, events, & coaches for training

  • Can be raced fairly in 4 - 25 knots

EVENT FORMAT

  • Boats and sails provided

  • Teams can choose to bring their own boat

  • League provides an on-water coach to help with boat problems on the water

  • League provides a boatwright to set-up boats and maintain/repair them during the event.
